Frequently Asked Questions

i have a dog i want to surrender, will you take them?

At Paws and Relax, we only take dogs out of shelters that are on euthanasia lists. We do not take in strays or surrenders.

What is the adoption process?

Start by filling out the form on our adoption page. Allow a few days for processing. Once we call your vet (if you have current pets) and confirm everything on the application, we will contact you and have you send us a home video showing where the dog will spend most of its time, including the backyard. Then, once that is all complete we will do a meeting with our dog and your dogs to make sure everyone gets along. Applications will be based on a first come first serve for each specific dog.

I don’t know which dog i want yet, can i still apply?

Absolutely! You can become an approved adopter, which will shorten the process once you do meet the dog you want to bring home.

if i become a foster, can i foster fail?

Yes! The process to become a foster is the same as applying to adopt. Our ability to save more dogs will be based on how many people step up to foster. If fostering leads to a dog finding a forever home, that is what we would consider a perfect situation!

what are the adoption fees, are they negotiable?

Adoption fees are non negotiable.

0-2 Years Old - $200

2-5 Years Old - $175

5-10 Years Old - $150

10 Years Old + - $125

What do the adoption fees cover?

When a dog is adopted from Paws and Relax, they will have a completely clean bill of health. Many of the dogs that come into the rescue have some sort of sickness and have some very expensive vet bills. Also, all dogs will be up to date on shots and will be spayed or neutered.

what are the responsibilities of a dog foster?

Fosters are responsible for loving and taking care of dogs that are coming from potentially bad situations. This may be the first time this dog has been shown love and comfort for years. As such, a foster is expected to have patience with these dogs. Some may be potty trained, some may not. Some dogs may be affectionate from day one, some may take time alone in their crate before they feel comfortable enough to ask for pets. Every dog is different.

Fosters are also responsible for making sure their dogs get to vet appointments on time.

Fosters will be provided everything they need in order to take care of the dogs, including food, kennels, and some toys. All vet bills will be paid for by Paws and Relax. We do use a specific vet, and it will be expected that the foster transport their dogs to this vet.

Fosters will also be expected to bring their dogs to meet and greet events.

what if i want to foster but have a trip planned?

You can still become a foster! For the time that you are out of town we will arrange for your foster to stay at another fosters home. Then when you get back you’ll take over their care again.
